Dr. Latifi Returns to the Expedition in the Amazon

After 17 hours of flying and 18 hours of boat riding on March 4, 2007, Dr. Latifi returned to the Amazon Swim Expedition, which by now has reached the remotest areas of the Brazilian Amazon.

As part of the goals to promote telemedicine in the remote regions of the world, Dr. Latifi, currently serving as Medical Director of the Amazon Swim Expedition, stopped for two days in Manaus, in the State of Amazonas in Brazil.

There he participated in the first telemedicine workshop in this region that was examining the need for the northern state of Brazil to connect through telemedicine and telehealth. During this conference where he gave the keynote address titled “Telemedicine and telepresence in extreme conditions: From Arizona to Amazon”, Dr. Latifi was connected live to the Amazon Swim Expedition boat.

After the workshop Dr. Latifi was assisted by the Mayor of Tefe and the Brazilian Army which after the 5 hour boat ride in the remotest jungle in the heavenly tropical rain safely brought Dr. Latifi to the Cassiquiarri boat where Martin and his Team awaited him earnestly.
